HARLEY ROBBINS
The life of Little Harley Robbins is a rather simple and contained one. This is not to say that she is not happy and fulfilled. She has only ever known life as she lives it with its daily routines and responsibilities and fills her free time often enjoying the area just outside of Auvrynon or pouring over books, absorbing what information they offer.
Harley’s family is not huge, but neither is it a small one, especially when she’s got one older brother and a very boisterous and imaginative younger brother. Her father, Odell, has the kindest eyes around, the most infectious laugh, and a hearty head and face of gray hair in Harley’s eyes. She always had been a daddy’s girl, and that was furthermore strengthened by sharing the same passion as him, even as a little girl. Her mother is who she gathered most of her looks. Harley is not the most beautiful girl in the city, by any means. Some would call her ordinary, but she has a tender quality about her and an inner beauty that shines when she is most in her element. Those who know this, often call her the princess of her father’s shop. The Robbins family is one that would invoke a warm admiration and happiness from passers-by who happen to catch a glimpse at the family through the window. Smiles and love have never been lacking in Harley’s life.
Harley’s daily routine consists of not only the typical family endeavors of meals, house work and quality time, but also of helping her Father in the family Apothecary or making house calls to help citizens with their ailments. Harley adores the work and indeed blossoms while doing it. Normally, a shy and easily discomfited young woman, she is quite the opposite while at work. There she is confident, quick to react, out-going, assertive, knowledgeable, and alive (among other things!). It is where she is comfortable and thus a smile most often lights up her face rather than being warmed by rosy cheeks. It is in the shop or with long time customers one can see the fondness most have for the girl. Many have known her since she was just a babe, and have seen her grow from diapers, through her awkward youth, and finally to the young lady she has become. It is because of this that many still call her “Little Harley”. That and because she was always on the smaller size growing up.
The boundaries to what Harley knows in life are small to many, but normal to her and to those who have born and lived their lives exclusively in Auvrynon and its immediate surroundings. Harley does not come from a line of travelers or adventurers. The Robbins have always been rooted in Auvrynon. One should not ever assume for an instant that her father has sheltered Harley or that her life situation has held her back. It simply should be viewed that she has been exposed to as much as she can given the life she leads. Her boundaries are open to experiences which broaden her horizons. Given her age, 22, she is at a prime age to really start developing her life and realizing her own naivity as she encounters the many people who travel through the city daily.
Of course, it is not as though Harley does not realize that a whole world exists outside of Auvrynon. What she knows of this world is only what she has read in books and dreamed about in her mind. New knowledge that expands the horizons and perceptions within her mind never cease to astound her. That so many different dimensions about the simple things she knows, even as simple of a thing as uses of music, exist is entirely intriguing to her. When these realizations occur she can usually be found scouring the book cart in the Trader’s Square to read as much as she can on the topic.
Harley has a whole life to live; A whole world to experience. Should she stay the same, she will have had a content and happy life, knowing none the better. Should new experiences find their way upon her doorstep, well then who knows where life will take her.
